Low-cost carrier Peach Aviation Ltd. resumed services on all 22 domestic routes on Friday, as Japan lifted the last remaining travel restrictions after claiming to have checked the spread of coronavirus.

The Osaka-based company said it will gradually step up the number of domestic flights, aiming to restore all the scheduled flights from July 22. All its international flights remain suspended with no restart date on the horizon.

It had suspended up to 13 domestic routes due to a slump in demand amid the pandemic and travel restrictions.

At Kansai International airport, a 58-year-old man from Kawachinagano in Osaka, who was flying to Kushiro in Hokkaido, said, "I want to take a trip while remaining cautious, as coronavirus has yet to be eradicated."

After watching one of his company's aircraft take off from Kansai, Peach Aviation CEO Takeaki Mori told reporters, "I think demand for domestic flights will increase as people who used to travel abroad will switch to domestic trips."

Low-cost carrier Jetstar Japan Co. has said it will resume services on all domestic routes by late July.
