A freelance video cameraman in his 40s working for Kyodo News has been infected with the new coronavirus, the Japanese news agency said Monday.

The company said it has already disinfected areas of its headquarters in Tokyo where the man, who has been covering entertainment news and editing footage, was at and ordered those who worked close to him to stay home, although none of them have developed symptoms.

The man was wearing a face mask during news gathering activities, it said, adding he had a cough and a fever last Tuesday and was later diagnosed with pneumonia at a clinic in Tokyo.

Since his fever did not subside, he was hospitalized Thursday and took a test at a public health center, which confirmed his infection with the virus on Monday. He currently has no fever.
