An "urban festival" where the public can get a different kind of look at various Olympic sports will be a ticketed event at this year's Tokyo Olympics, a source with knowledge of the plan said Sunday.

Tickets for the event, to be held in the Ariake Urban Sports Park, home to skateboarding and cycling BMX venues, and the Ariake Gymnastics Center, will sell for 2,000 yen ($18). According to organizers, ticket holders will be able to view official practices and see performances by disc jockeys at times that do not interfere with official competition.

Organizers are also considering locations where ticket-holders can get hands-on experience of some sports.

Meanwhile, organizers have decided to make pre-competition warmups at the street basketball and sport climbing venues in the Aomi Urban Sports Park open to the public free of charge.

The Tokyo bayside area where the urban sports venues are located has been dubbed "Tokyo Waterfront City" and organizers are developing different plans to make it a vibrant gathering spot during the games.
