A farmer in western Japan's Nara Prefecture was surprised when he harvested a rare radish earlier this week that looks as if it has been braided in the ground.

"I have no idea why it ended up like that," said Shigeru Degaki, 62, of Tenri in the prefecture.

The radish was among the crops he grew for making pickled vegetables.

Degaki said he will not be able to make pickles out of the radish because of its interwoven shape, so he plans to eat it as a simmered dish after spending some time just to appreciate its unique appearance.
