Rui Hachimura will remain sidelined for "a couple of weeks" with a groin injury, Washington Wizards head coach Scott Brooks said Tuesday.

The 21-year-old rookie from Japan has missed seven games since suffering the injury during the Wizards' win over the Detroit Pistons on Dec. 16.

Brooks, whose team beat the Miami Heat 123-105 on Monday, said Hachimura was "still sore" but had no long-term injury concerns.

"I anticipate him being out for a couple of weeks and then we will re-evaluate it at that time," Brooks said.

"He is in good spirits, he obviously wants to be here with his team and play games. He is playing really well, we miss him."

Brooks downplayed the significance of the extended absence after Hachimura had begun to make an impression as one of the league's more impressive first-year players.

"He is going to play 15 years in the league, if he misses a month of his rookie season it is not a big deal," Brooks said.

The Toyama Prefecture native, drafted No. 9, has averaged 13.9 points per game as the Wizards' starting power forward.

The Wizards are 12th in the NBA Eastern Conference with 10 wins and 22 losses.
