A tour helicopter crashed in a mountainous area of Hawaii's Kauai Island, leaving six people dead, local media reported Friday.

Emergency services personnel recovered six bodies and said they believe the seventh person who was on the aircraft could not have survived the crash that occurred on Thursday.

Local authorities and the Coast Guard said there were six passengers from two families, and that two of the six appeared to be minors. There was one pilot.

Japan's consulate general in Honolulu said it has no information indicating that any of the passengers are Japanese.

The helicopter failed to return from a flight over the popular Napali coast on Kauai Island on Thursday evening local time.

The area is known for being a filming location for the blockbuster film Jurassic Park.

Although the helicopter was equipped with a locator beacon, local authorities say no signal was detected.
