Liverpool are set to make a move for Japan attacker Takumi Minamino during the January transfer window, British media reported Thursday.

The current English Premier League leaders will pay a transfer fee of around 7.25 million pounds ($9.5 million) to secure the 24-year-old Red Bull Salzburg winger, who has also drawn strong interest from German and Italian clubs, according to Sky Sports.

Minamino, who can play on either wing or as a striker, has been a prolific scorer for Japan since becoming a national team fixture under manager Hajime Moriyasu.

Minamino transferred to Austrian champions Salzburg from J-League side Cerezo Osaka in 2015. He has impressed in domestic and European competitions, including strong performances in a pair of Champions League matches against Liverpool this year.
