Japan's Yudai Baba has signed with the Dallas Mavericks, bringing its training camp roster up to the maximum 20 players, the team announced Thursday.

The 23-year-old swingman had a strong showing at the World Cup in China earlier this month, despite Japan's 0-5 record at the 32-team international tournament. Baba was his country's top scorer with 18 points in a 98-45 loss to the United States.

He participated in a Mavericks mini-camp in June and played for the team's summer league in July, averaging 4 points and just over 2 rebounds in 12 minutes per game.

The Toyama Prefecture native previously helped Alvark Tokyo to two consecutive championships in Japan's B. League.

Considered a longshot to make the Dallas roster for the regular season, Baba could end up playing for its G League affiliate, the Texas Legends.

Training camp opens on Oct. 1 with the regular season set to begin on Oct. 22.
