Sagan Tosu forward Fernando Torres announced on social media Friday that he is calling it quits on an 18-year career.

The 35-year-old Spaniard joined the J-League first-division side last summer after long stints with Atletico Madrid, Liverpool and Chelsea.

"After 18 exciting years, the time has come to put an end to my football career," read a post on his Twitter account.

Torres was capped by 2010 World Cup champion Spain 110 times and scored 38 international goals. He has scored three goals in 28 J-League games. Sagan are currently last in the 18-team J1.

His tweet announced that he would hold a press conference in Tokyo on Sunday.
