Japan's Hideki Matsuyama kept alive hopes for his first PGA Tour title in two years, firing eight birdies in the third round of the Memorial Tournament on Saturday to charge up the leaderboard.

Matsuyama, who entered the day in 25th place, chipped in for birdie on the 18th hole for a season-low 64 at the Muirfield Village Golf Club to join Americans Patrick Cantlay and Jordan Spieth in a three-way tie for third at 11-under 205.

Germany's Martin Kaymer will take a two-stroke lead over Adam Scott of Australia into the final round on Sunday. Kaymer, seeking his first win since 2014, matched Scott's 66 to land at 15-under.

"I was able to finish on a good note," said Matsuyama, the 2014 Memorial Tournament champion.

"I've been able to play the kind of golf where I persevere and not give up when I hit a rough patch. I want to continue what I'm doing now and yield good results," he said.

Matsuyama's last victory came in August 2017 at the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational, where he claimed his fifth win on the PGA Tour.
