Cherry trees came into full bloom in central Tokyo on Wednesday, the Japan Meteorological Agency said, earlier than other cities in the country this spring amid recent warm weather.

The agency confirmed that more than 80 percent of the flowers sampled of Somei Yoshino cherry trees at Yasukuni Shrine have bloomed, seven days earlier than normal but three days later than last year.

At Rikugien, a traditional Japanese garden in Tokyo's Bunkyo Ward, a giant weeping cherry tree was attracting many visitors.

Also Wednesday, cherry trees in Osaka came into bloom, a day earlier than usual but seven days later than 2018, a local meteorological observatory said, adding it expects them to be in full bloom in a week or so.

The season's first blooming of Somei Yoshino trees in Japan was confirmed in the southwestern prefecture of Nagasaki on March 20.
