Samsung Electronics Co. said Wednesday it will introduce a foldable smartphone globally, from April 26, in a bid to fend off fierce competition from Apple Inc. and Chinese rivals.

The Galaxy Fold features a 7.3-inch (18.5 centimeter) display that folds into a compact device with a cover display. It will cost $1,980.

The South Korean manufacturer also unveiled a new lineup of smartphones -- the Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10 Plus and Galaxy S10e, which will go on sale globally from March. The S10 will come with a 6.1-inch screen, the S10 Plus with a 6.4-inch display and the S10e with a 5.8-inch monitor.

The camera for the new lineup features improved zoom and an ultra-wide lens that facilitates ground-to-sky panoramic shots. The S10 Plus has five cameras, including a 10-megapixel selfie mode.
