Tokyo subway trains were suspended Sunday in an area including popular tourist spots Asakusa and the Tokyo Sky Tree tower due to a broken rail, the operator said.

A broken rail was found on the tracks between Asakusa and Honjoazumabashi around 5:10 a.m. on the Toei Asakusa Line operated by the Tokyo metropolitan government.

The operator attached a metal board to the damaged part of the tracks and resumed operations after suspending train runs for three hours between Oshiage and Asakusabashi.

The operator was aware of the abnormality as an alarm went off at the control room after the day's first train passed, the operator said, adding it estimated the incident affected some 10,000 passengers.

The Asakusa Line runs in eastern and southern areas of Tokyo which also contain the Ginza shopping district. It shares the tracks with Keikyu Corp. and Keisei Electric Railway Co. which run trains taking passengers to Haneda and Narita airports.

The line is one of the four subway lines operated by the metropolitan government.
