Top officials of North Korea as well as citizens staged a large-scale rally in Pyongyang on Friday, pledging to carry out the tasks the country's leader Kim Jong Un mentioned in his New Year statement.

Kim Nung O, chairman of the Pyongyang municipal committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, delivered a speech in front of the high-ranking participants including Premier Pak Pong Ju during the event at Kim Il Sung Square.

Many participants held up placards and signs carrying slogans for enhancing economic and technological capabilities in the country during the rally.

On New Year's Day, Kim Jong Un pledged to make the North Korean economy more self-sufficient and improve people's lives while showing his eagerness to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump again.
