Japan will face South Africa's Springboks in a warm-up test next year ahead of Rugby World Cup 2019, an informed source said Sunday.

World Cup hosts Japan will play the two-time World Cup-winning Springboks next Sept. 6, apparently at Kumagaya Rugby Ground -- a World Cup venue near Tokyo. An announcement is expected in the coming days.

The last time the two teams met Japan beat the Springboks 34-32 in their opening match at the Rugby World Cup in 2015, a result that has been called the greatest upset in rugby history.

Japan, who next year will be in Pool A, are currently ranked 11th in the world, while South Africa, in Pool B, are fifth.
