A U.S. Navy helicopter crashed Friday on the flight deck of a nuclear aircraft carrier while it was carrying out routine operations in the Philippine Sea, according to the U.S. 7th Fleet.

The MH-60 Seahawk crashed back onto the USS Ronald Reagan, which is based at the Japanese port city of Yokosuka, shortly after it had taken off at around 9 a.m.

Multiple personnel were injured, but all are in "stable condition," the fleet said in a statement, adding that the cause is under investigation.

"The Ronald Reagan remains fully mission capable and has resumed flight operations," it added.
