North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has invited Pope Francis to visit Pyongyang, and South Korean President Moon Jae In will convey the message to the pope during their meeting next week, the South's presidential office said Tuesday.

Moon will depart for a trip to several European countries, including France and Italy, on Saturday, according to the office. He is slated to make an official visit to the Vatican on Oct. 17 and 18, during which he is expected to hold talks with the pope.

Kim has indicated his readiness to warmly welcome the pope should he visit Pyongyang, according to the office.

Moon and Kim met in the North Korean capital last month for their third summit.
