Fashion lovers' eyes are on Japan this week as the major biannual extravaganza, the Amazon Fashion Week Tokyo, kicked off Monday featuring young names in and outside Japan that could lead the clothing culture of tomorrow.

Around 50 fashion brands will be showcasing their latest works for the 2019 spring and summer seasons, with "Aoi Wakana," an up-and-coming Japanese brand that bears its designer's name, marking the start of the 7-day celebration.

"I feel my brand is about to set off now, just like a chrysalis turning into a butterfly," says designer Wakana of her brand, which aims to portray the sensual beauty of Japanese spring using pale colors made possible by Japanese traditional dyeing techniques.

The fashion week features a series of runway shows presentations and talk shows at various venues, including the Shibuya Hikarie commercial complex in one of the most stylish shopping districts of downtown Tokyo.
