South Korean prosecutors on Thursday sought a 20-year jail term for former President Lee Myung Bak mainly over corruption charges.

The prosecutors, who are also seeking a 15 billion won ($13.3 million) fine and forfeiture of 11.1 billion won, made the recommendation at a hearing at the Seoul District Court attended by Lee, 76.

Lee, who was in office from 2008 to 2013, was indicted in April on a total of 16 charges including that he took 11 billion won in bribes while in office. His trial began in May and he has completely denied all of the charges.

The three-judge panel at the court is scheduled to hand down its verdict early next month.

He is the fourth former president to be indicted after the country's former military dictators Chun Doo Hwan and Roh Tae Woo, and his conservative successor Park Geun Hye.
