Hollywood megastar Will Smith on Friday named Japan's Keisuke Honda as one of the "coolest players" to have taken the pitch at the 2018 World Cup.

After identifying Cristiano Ronaldo as top of the pile, the actor and musical performer said, unprompted, that Honda was also one of his favorites.

"You know who else I like? Keisuke Honda. We have a little bit of a relationship. Keisuke is the truth," said two-time Academy Award nominee Smith, whose path to stardom began with the 1990s hit television show "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air."

"I like his heart. He is a really authentic, good dude."

Smith was speaking at a press conference at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium ahead of Sunday's World Cup closing ceremony, where he will perform the official tournament song "Live It Up" with Kosovar singer-songwriter Era Istrefi and American reggaeton performer Nicky Jam.

Smith and Honda, who played a key role off the bench for the Samurai Blue in Russia, are apparently linked through the management company Honda Estilo.

The company represents the former AC Milan and now CF Pachuca player and has Smith and his son, Jaden, listed as talent on its website.
