Sony Corp. said Tuesday former President Kazuo Hirai received 2.07 billion yen ($19 million) in executive compensation last fiscal year, the largest amount since the company began disclosing such information.

The remuneration, which included 1.18 billion yen in retirement pay, reflected robust earnings for the technology and entertainment group in the past year to March 31. Sony posted a record-high group operating profit in fiscal 2017 for the first time in 20 years.

Hirai became Sony's chairman in April after serving as president for six years. Kenichiro Yoshida, a former chief financial officer who succeeded Hirai as president, was paid 438 million yen, according to the company's financial statements for fiscal 2017.

In Japan, a rule came into effect in fiscal 2009 requiring companies to disclose the names of executives and the breakdown of their compensation packages when an executive's annual pay amounts to 100 million yen or more.
