Japan's Naomi Osaka advanced to the third round at the French Open on Wednesday, defeating Kazakhstan's Zarina Diyas in straight sets.

Osaka, the 21st seed in the women's draw, needed 1 hour, 23 minutes to complete her 6-4, 7-5 victory over the 24-year-old Diyas, who is ranked 51st in the world. In the third round, The 20-year-old will face an American, either Caroline Dolehide or 13th seed Madison Keys.

Two years ago at the U.S. Open, Osaka was leading Keys 5-1 in the third set in their round-of-32 match, but melted down in a 7-5, 4-6, 7-6(3) defeat.

Japan's Kei Nishikori, the men's 19th seed, was set to take on 51st-ranked Benoit Paire in their second-round match later in the day.
