Japanese sporting goods maker Asics Corp. said Wednesday that all of its limited-edition replica baseball gear sets of Los Angeles Angels pitching-slugging sensation Shohei Ohtani sold out in one day.

Asics offered 17 sets, in tribute to his uniform number, and started accepting online reservations at 11 a.m. the day before. Each set, sold for 324,000 yen ($2,900), included batting gloves, a pitching glove, shoes and a bat.

The company also said it accepted reservations for other sets of different gear combinations, and they also sold out.

Given strong demand, Asics plans to sell replicas made with different materials from late July.

According to Major League Baseball, Ohtani is the first player since Babe Ruth in 1919 to start as a non-pitcher on opening day and then start as a pitcher in his team's first 10 games. The 23-year-old was named the American League Rookie of the Month for April.
