The Kasumigaseki Building, known as the first skyscraper in Japan, held a lighting-up ceremony Wednesday in Tokyo marking the 50th anniversary of its completion, operator Mitsui Fudosan Co. said.
The 36-story office building with a height of 147 meters was completed on April 12, 1968, in Kasumigaseki -- home to a number of government ministries -- in the wake of deregulation on buildings' heights in the 1960s. The building became a harbinger of the current high-rise area in the capital.
Japanese digital artist Akira Hasegawa, a supervisor of the event, and Japanese actress Yu Aoi were among the guests at the ceremony.
Visitors can observe the lighting-up on weekdays between Thursday and May 31 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
