The 2019 Rugby World Cup stadium under construction in northeastern Japan's Kamaishi, which suffered major damage in the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami disaster, will open on Aug. 19, the city said Tuesday.

Kamaishi Unosumai Recovery Memorial Stadium in Iwate Prefecture is the only new venue for the World Cup, which kicks off Sept. 20. The stadium will host two games during the tournament -- Fiji versus Uruguay on Sept. 25 and Africa 1 against the winner of the repechage on Oct. 13.

The locally based Kamaishi Seawaves, currently in the second tier of Japanese professional rugby, will play a match on the opening day of the stadium. The ground will also host the Top League game between Coca-Cola Red Sparks and Canon Eagles on Oct. 7.
