Shohei Ohtani singled twice Friday for his fourth multi-hit game in the majors, but the Los Angeles Angels fell 8-1 to the San Francisco Giants for their fourth straight loss.

A day after his first hitless game in the majors as designated hitter, the 23-year-old two-way phenom bounced back to deliver two of Los Angeles' five hits at Angel Stadium in the opener of the three-game series against San Francisco.

"I found a way to adjust my approach to each of the pitchers," Ohtani said. "Even in the at-bats when I made out, it was clear how it happened. I want to move forward by considering the reason for those results.

"Based on the at-bats when I make out, I believe I can adjust in order to do better the next time. Even if it's simply taking balls and hitting strikes, I'll be fine."

Hitting sixth in the batting order for the second consecutive night, Ohtani singled in his first at-bat in the second inning with the Angels trailing 1-0. He hit a liner to center off right-hander Jeff Samardzija (1-0), who retired the first five batters in order before facing Ohtani.

Ohtani popped out in his second and third at-bats but led off the ninth with a single off Giants reliever Josh Osich. The next hitter flied out and a double play sealed San Francisco's eighth win of the season.

Giants catcher Nick Hundley opened the scoring with a second-inning solo home run to right center field off left-hander Andrew Heaney (0-1). San Francisco's two fifth-inning homers, including a three-run shot by Andrew McCutchen, extended their advantage to 7-0.

Blistered and beaten, Shohei Ohtani eager to get back on mound

Mike Trout scored the only run for the Angels with his eighth-inning solo shot after San Francisco drove in another run in the top of the inning.

On Thursday, Ohtani went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in the Angels' 8-2 defeat to the Boston Red Sox. Los Angeles went winless in the three-game series against the American League East leaders.

Ohtani appears on schedule to make his next starting pitching assignment. He left his Tuesday start against the Boston Red Sox after two innings, during which he developed a blister on the middle finger of his right hand. Prior to Friday's game, however, he threw a bullpen and appeared satisfied with the results.

"I'm in good shape having thrown today. I'm coming along at a good pace," he said.
