Akito Watabe, the Nordic combined normal hill-10 kilometer silver medalist of the Pyeongchang Olympics, was competing at the games with a left rib fracture, the Ski Association of Japan said late Thursday evening.

Watabe never mentioned the injury during his time in Pyeongchang, which came to an end for him Thursday with Japan finishing fourth in the team event.

According to SAJ, the 29-year-old suffered the injury on Feb. 2 during official ski jumping training of a World Cup meet in Hakuba, Nagano Prefecture, as he missed his landing.

The SAJ said Watabe did not complain of pain due to the injury. He appeared in all three combined events in Pyeongchang -- individual normal and large hill, and team.

Watabe was fifth in the large hill.
