U.S. President Donald Trump will send his daughter and adviser Ivanka to Sunday's closing ceremony of the Winter Olympics in South Korea, the White House said Wednesday.

Before attending events at the Pyeongchang Olympics on Saturday and Sunday, Ivanka Trump plans to have dinner with President Moon Jae In on Friday at the Blue House presidential office in Seoul, according to senior administration officials.

Her trip will be an opportunity to cheer American athletes competing in the Games and reaffirm the alliance between the United States and South Korea, the officials told reporters.

The first daughter has no plans to meet with North Korean officials or defectors during the trip, they said.

"I am honored to lead the U.S. delegation to the closing ceremonies of the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics," Ivanka said in a statement.

"We look forward to congratulating Team USA and celebrating all that our athletes have achieved," she said. "Their talent, drive, grit and spirit embody American excellence, and inspire us all."

The U.S. delegation includes James Risch, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Near East, South Asia, Central Asia and Counterterrorism, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Gen. Vincent Brooks, commander of the U.S. Forces Korea, according to the White House.
