Canada's Sebastien Toutant claimed the gold medal in the inaugural snowboard men's big air event at the Pyeonchang Winter Olympics on Saturday.

Toutant, who had high scores of 84.75 and 89.50 for a total of 174.25 on his two runs, was a cut above American Kyle Mack and Great Britain's Billy Morgan, who took the silver and bronze, respectively, with scores of 168.75 and 168.00 at Alpensia Ski Jumping Centre.

The 2016 world big air bronze medalist, Toutant was competing in his second consecutive Olympics.

American Redmond Gerard, who was bidding for his second Olympic gold in Pyeongchang after winning the men's slopestyle, placed fifth with a score of 143.00.
