A female giant panda cub born at a Tokyo zoo turned 4 months old Wednesday and may be put on display to meet visitors from around December, the zoo operator said.

Xiang Xiang, born June 12, is growing healthily, weighing 7.7 kilograms and measuring 69.8 centimeters as of Tuesday, the Ueno Zoological Gardens said.

The cub is walking in a wider area than before and able to stand against a fence by putting her forefoot on it. She has cut her canine and cheek teeth and is often seen chewing bamboo and the fence, according to the zoo.

"She is growing steadily. We will have to be careful from now on as she will move around in a wider area," said Hirofumi Watabe, deputy director of the park.

The facility is considering showing the cub and her 12-year-old mother Shin Shin to the public from around December, when the cub becomes 6 months old.
