Japan came up with a quirky bath idea as Nagatanien Co., a maker of seasonings for "ochazuke," a soupy dish using green tea, said Friday it will run a bath with a color and aroma similar to the popular Japanese food for two months.

At the "ochazuke bath" opening Sept. 30 at the Yunessun hot spring theme park in Hakone, near Tokyo, visitors will be able to "enjoy the feeling of becoming the ingredients of ochazuke," a company official said. Ochazuke is usually made by pouring green tea over rice.

Nagatanien has developed a special additive for the planned bath. It is made of kombu seaweed, a key item in creating "dashi" soup stock, and fermented rice.

The green-colored bath with dashi aroma will be created by mixing hot spring water with the additive. The bath will also have floats resembling sliced nori seaweed and other toppings for ochazuke.

Officials at Yunessun, which already has unique baths such as a coffee bath and a wine bath in addition to the traditional Japanese bath, said the theme park has been seeing an increasing number of foreign tourists.

The theme park and Nagatanien hope the ochazuke bath will provide a good opportunity to promote Japanese food and Japanese hot springs at the same time.
