The U.S. Navy plans to relieve the commander of the fleet involved in two fatal collisions between destroyers and civilian vessels in Asian waters, The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday.

Vice Adm. Joseph Aucoin, the three-star commander of the 7th Fleet based in Yokosuka near Tokyo, will be relieved of command on Wednesday in connection with the two collisions and two other incidents involving the fleet's vessels, the newspaper said, citing two U.S. officials familiar with the matter.

Aucoin became fleet commander in September 2015.

The guided-missile destroyer John S. McCain collided with an oil tanker east of Singapore early Monday, leaving 10 U.S. sailors missing. The Navy later found bodies inside the damaged destroyer and another was recovered by Malaysia's navy.

Another guided-missile destroyer, the Fitzgerald, collided with a container ship off Japan in mid-June, killing seven U.S. sailors.
