The U.S. Navy's 7th Fleet said Thursday a body found at sea earlier this week by the Malaysian navy was not one of the sailors still missing after the destroyer John S. McCain's collision with an oil tanker east of Singapore.

"The determination was made following medical examinations of the remains, which will be returned to Malaysian authorities," the fleet's command said in a statement.

Monday's collision left 10 U.S. sailors missing. Separate from the remains found by the Royal Malaysian Navy, the U.S. Navy has found a number of bodies inside sealed compartments in damaged parts of the guided-missile destroyer.

Meanwhile, four injured sailors who were flown to a hospital in Singapore for treatment were released Wednesday and have returned to their posts, according to the statement.

Search efforts, joined by the Indonesian, Malaysian and Singaporean navies as well as the Australian air force, continue at sea near where the collision took place, the fleet said.
