After becoming a sensation in Japan and abroad, the blockbuster Japanese animation film "your name." will look to extend its winning streak with its DVD and Blu-ray Disc release on July 26.

Movie studio Toho Co. has announced that the romantic body-swapping movie by director Makoto Shinkai will be available with both English and Chinese subtitles. Fans of the time-travel love story have already swamped websites offering pre-orders for the film.

Thanks partly to word of mouth, cinematographic appeal, and popularity of Japanese rock band RADWIMPS who performed the soundtrack, the film about a high school girl living in the countryside yearning for a different life and a Tokyo schoolboy became a phenomenal hit since opening in Japanese theaters on Aug. 26 last year.

With box-office revenues surpassing 24.8 billion yen ($219 million) as of this April, the film is now the second-highest grossing Japanese film after "Spirited Away," a Hayao Miyazaki anime released in 2001.

Since pre-orders started recently on Amazon Japan's website, the film, with its varying versions from standard to collector's editions, has sat near the top of the website's DVD rankings, underscoring the strong interest in the film.

It also became the highest-grossing Japanese movie of all time in China and was shown in other parts of Asia, including South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Thailand, as well as in the United States, where it hit theaters in early April.

The story, in which the fates of high school students are intertwined by the once-in-a-thousand-year fall of a comet, has earned awards, including from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association and an animation festival in South Korea.

According to Toho, the standard DVD edition is priced at around 3,800 yen and the Blu-ray Disc version, which will be available in a region-free format, starts at roughly 4,800 yen.

A premium collector's edition will offer 4K ultra HD content and more footage featuring the director and voice cast, and supplementary paraphernalia such as booklets and stickers for around 12,000 yen. The English versions of RADWIMPS's songs are also included.
