Japanese pop duo and anime theme song specialists ‘angela’ step onto the world stage with their latest song ‘Calling you’ which features on the Netflix animated movie adaptation of the manga BLAME!, released May 20.

‘angela’ (comprising vocalist Atsuko and guitarist Katsu) have come a long way since their days  in the early 90s as street performers, having gone on to make a career out of composing and performing theme songs for anime.  The duo’s impressive list of anime credits include ‘Fafner in the Azure’, ‘Knights of Sidonia’, ‘Aijin’ and ‘Bodacious Space Pirates The Movie’.

It wasn’t until 2003, however, that the group made their major breakthrough with ‘Asu e no brilliant road’, a song which appeared as the opening theme for the anime ‘Stellvia’. Along with the recent release of BLAME!, ‘angela’ will be adding theme songs for upcoming anime ‘Aho Girl’ (set for release this summer) to that ever growing and impressive list of credentials.

The duo are no strangers to the live stage either, having toured Canada, Germany, Hong Kong and Taiwan in 2015.  In March of this year, ‘angela’ played their first show at Japan’s storied Budokan.

The group are set to perform live at a concert in Los Angeles on July 1, part of Anisong World Matsuri “Japan Super Live” at Anime Expo 2017.

BLAME! is currently on a 2-week run at theaters in Japan in connection with its Netflix streaming release on May 20.  The feature-length anime is based on the 1998 science fiction manga created by Japan’s Tsutomu Nihei.  The story tells of a city structure replicating itself ad infinitum in which its human residents are being hunted by the very security systems supposed to safeguard them.  Hope for human survival and the restoration of order lies in mysterious wanderer Killy.
