February saw exhibition center Pacifico Yokohama host ‘INTERSTYLE February 2017’, an event promoting the culture and community of surf, skate, and snowboard lifestyles. Present at the event’s skate park was freestyle skateboarder Isamu Yamamoto (山本勇) who gave spectators a glimpse of the transcendental techniques that have so captured the world of skateboarding.
Yamamoto’s strengths as a freestyle skater are an almost miraculous sense of balance coupled with a freedom of thinking that allows him to conjure up the kind of tricks that are peerless in their creativity and originality.
Board flips, spins while on the deck, and the kind of riding that sees Yamamoto project from the deck employing artistic techniques that almost resemble dance moves have shocked the skating world, with many calling him the Japanese Rodney Mullen.
