The parent company of Vissel Kobe, e-commerce giant Rakuten Inc., announced Thursday that the J-League first division side will play 25-time Spanish champions Barcelona on July 27 at Kobe's Noevir Stadium.

Hiroshi Mikitani, Rakuten's founder and Vissel Kobe chairman, said at a press conference, "I think this will be a battle that will attract attention around the world."

Last year, Vissel made headlines by signing big name former Spain internationals Andre Iniesta and David Villa, both of whom have played for Barcelona.

"For me this will be a new experience," Iniesta said in a video message. "I want a great game, played at the highest level."

While in Japan, Barcelona will also play English Premier League giants Chelsea on July 23 at Saitama Stadium.
