The International Olympic Committee's Coordination Commission began a three-day meeting in Tokyo on Monday and IOC President Thomas Bach once again praised the host city for its preparations.

In his remarks at the opening session, Bach said he is certain Tokyo will host a successful Games in 2020 with collaboration between all parties involved, and will benefit greatly from being ahead of schedule in its preparations.

Last week, at the general assembly of the Association of National Olympic Committees in Tokyo, Bach said he had not seen an Olympic host city be so far ahead in its preparations for the games.

On Monday, as the latest Coordination Commission visit to monitor progress kicked off, Bach said Tokyo can now focus on important issues such as transport and accommodation with many items having been ticked off, but Yoshiro Mori, president of the Tokyo 2020 organizing committee, preferred to be cautious.

"In Japan there is a saying that goes 'Overconfidence is the worst enemy.' I take (Mr. Bach's praise) as encouraging words to caution us not to get too confident," Mori said.

Also in attendance were Coordination Commission Chairman John Coates, Tokyo Gov. Yuriko Koike and Yoshitaka Sakurada, the minister in charge of the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games, among others.

The IOC delegation led by Coates will visit four Olympic venues in the city on Monday, along with Mori.
