Gonzaga forward Rui Hachimura matched a team high with 21 points, but No. 7 Tennessee handed the top-ranked Bulldogs their first loss of the college basketball season by pulling off a 76-73 upset on Sunday.

The 20-year-old Japan-born player played 34 minutes and equaled Brandon Clarke in points. Gonzaga led by as many as nine points in the second half, but dropped to 9-1 this season before a non-conference showdown with North Carolina.

For the Tennessee Volunteers, Admiral Schofield scored 25 of his 30 points in the second half, including the game-winning three-pointer with 24 seconds remaining.

"They had the advantage, height wise and physique wise," Hachimura said. "We'll just have to focus again and keep going."

Gonzaga will play No. 14 North Carolina on Dec. 15 in Chapel Hill.
