Japanese figure skater Yuzuru Hanyu fell during an official practice session on Saturday ahead of the men's free program at the Rostelecom Cup in Moscow.

It appeared Hanyu injured his problematic right ankle after attempting a quadruple loop. He immediately cut short the practice.
"It's OK," he said while limping slightly as he walked towards an athlete bus with his ankle wrapped in ice.

On Friday, Hanyu scored 110.53 to secure a 20.59-point short program lead over Morisi Kvitelashvili of Georgia.
The Japanese is aiming for his second-straight Grand Prix title this season after winning the meet in Helsinki, Finland, earlier this month.

An injury will be particularly frustrating for the two-time Olympic champion as he said in the buildup to the event that he wanted to avoid a repeat of last year when he was forced to miss the Grand Prix Final with an injury to the same ankle.

"First of all I want to get through official practice (in Moscow) without any trouble," said Hanyu on Wednesday after arriving in Moscow. "I'll take care to avoid a repeat of what happened last year."

Hanyu suffered ankle tendon and bone injuries after falling while attempting a quad lutz during training at the NHK Trophy on Nov. 9, 2017.
