Chinese twin sisters Jiang Tingting and Jiang Wenwen won the fourth consecutive gold for their country in the women's artistic swimming duets at the Asian Games on Tuesday, beating Japan's duo of Yukiko Inui and Megumu Yoshida.

The Chinese sisters received a total of 186.5101 points, topping both the technical and free routines. The Japanese pair was 4.1738 behind the 31-year-old twins in combined points.

Another twin pair, Kazakhstani sisters Yekaterina and Alexandra Nemich, took bronze with 170.8845.

After earning Japan's fourth straight silver in the quadrennial multisport event, Inui told reporters at Jakarta's GBK Aquatic Center, "I am disappointed as we were aiming for the top of the podium."

The Japanese duo said they will step up their efforts to catch up with their Chinese rivals. They will get a chance at redemption on Wednesday, when Japan faces China and eight other groups in the women's team event.

Since being first contested at the Asian Games in 1994, artistic swimming -- formerly called synchronized swimming -- has been won by either Japan or China.

But with China dominating the sport in recent years, Japan has not won the duet competition at the Asian Games since 2002, and has yet to capture the team event.
