Japan's Naomi Osaka said Saturday she has no intention of stopping at the third round of Wimbledon this time, after being knocked out by Venus Williams at that stage in her debut performance at the grass-court major last year.

"I think the goal is always to win," Osaka said at a press conference. "I wouldn't want to go into a tournament just to say 'this time I want to go into the fourth round.'"

"I feel like I've been to the third round and I haven't really passed it. The goal isn't to stop at the third round this year. For me, if I'm positive I play well to the end. That's the main thing I'm taking through grass season."

After being forced to pull out of the Nature Valley Classic grass-court tournament earlier this month with abdominal issues, the 20-year-old and current world No. 18 said she was learning to listen to her body.

"I've had this (problem) three times. Before I used to try and play through it, but it made the healing process really difficult," she said. "Now I'm more accustomed to knowing when to stop."

Osaka also said she was feeling better about Wimbledon this year, after familiarizing herself with the grass-court major at the last tournament including a win over No. 23 Barbora Strycova of the Czech Republic.

"Last year I had never been here before, but now I know where things generally are," she said.

Having claimed her first WTA title at the hardcourt Indian Wells in March, Osaka said she also felt confident of her grass-court skill this season, having made it to the Nottingham Open semifinals before losing to No. 17 Ashleigh Barty of Australia.

"I feel like I've played a lot of good matches on grass this year. Sometimes the ball bounces a bit weird, but other than that things are pretty fun."

The bubbly young star said she has even gotten used to Wimbledon's strict all-white dress code.

"I normally wear black, so when I had to start wearing white I thought I looked really weird," she said. "I think it's really special for a tournament to have that kind of rule and for everybody to respect that."

Osaka will face Romanian Monica Niculescu in her first match on Tuesday.
