Legoland Japan unveiled Thursday a water play area -- an attraction added to the amusement park for the first time since opening in April 2017 -- as the park operator hopes to boost the number of visitors during the summer break.

The park in the central Japanese city of Nagoya invited local children to the unveiling of the attraction, dubbed "Lego City Beach Party," featuring Lego block-inspired sliders and other playground equipment in a basin of water about 10-centimeters deep.

Torben Jensen, president of Legoland Japan K.K., said he hopes children beat the summer heat and have fun by getting wet at the play area.

The attraction, which also has an area where children can build their own Lego boats and float them, will be opened to the public on Saturday.

The park opened as Japan's first outdoor Legoland park.
