The Japan Football Association named a 27-man squad Friday for the upcoming friendly against Ghana which will serve as the Samurai Blue's final warm-up on home soil before the World Cup in Russia.

"Basically my thoughts on the final World Cup squad are centered on these 27 players. But it's possible a player invited to training could make the team," head coach Akira Nishino said.

The squad for the May 30 match at Yokohama's Nissan stadium includes Leicester's Shinji Okazaki and Dortmund's Shinji Kagawa, both of whom have recently returned from long injury layoffs. Nishino said his plans definitely include Okazaki in the attack.

"He can contribute," Nishino said. "He's now getting things done as a striker and I have no thought of a different role for him."

Also included is veteran playmaker Keisuke Honda of Mexican side Pachuca, who was seen as being at risk of missing selection.

The head coach said he wants to use the time he has to further evaluate Kagawa and Honda.

Other notable inclusions are goalkeeper Eiji Kawashima of French side Metz and longtime Samurai Blue captain Makoto Hasebe of Eintracht Frankfurt. Sanfrecce Hiroshima midfielder Toshihiro Aoyama returned to the national team fold after a three-year absence.

The JFA, which submitted its preliminary World Cup player list to FIFA earlier in the week, will name its final 23-man squad for the June 14 to July 15 tournament the day after the Ghana match.

Nishino, who took the reins following the shock dismissal of predecessor Vahid Halilhodzic early last month, will hold his first practice sessions in charge of the national squad at a domestic training camp starting May 21.

The World Cup squad will hold a pre-tournament camp in Innsbruck, Austria, in June. They will play warmup matches on June 8 and 12 against Switzerland and Paraguay, respectively, before opening their World Cup campaign against Group H opponents Colombia on June 19.
