Japanese rookie sensation Shohei Ohtani hit two doubles, scored two runs and drew two walks Thursday as the Los Angeles Angels overran the Toronto Blue Jays 8-1.

It was the first multi-hit outing in eight games for 23-year-old Ohtani, who batted fifth in the lineup as designated hitter at Rogers Centre.

"I was happy with each at-bat," Ohtani said. "Overall, I felt I performed my role well throughout the course of the game."

After drawing a walk and scoring on Martin Maldonado's single in the second, Ohtani doubled on a sharp line drive off right-hander Marco Estrada (2-5) in his next at-bat in the third.

Ohtani was initially called out at second base on his ninth-inning double. The Angels challenged the play, however, and he was ruled to have beat Blue Jays second baseman Devo Travis' tag on review.

A day after stealing his first big-league base in the Angels' series-opening 5-4 win over Toronto, Ohtani said he was still trying to adjust his base running to the faster-paced majors.

"Compared to Japan, the ball moves a lot faster off hits by my teammates, so judging when to run can be a little difficult at times," he said.

Nick Tropeano (2-3) struck out six over 7-1/3 innings for the win as the Angels improved to 16-5 on the road, the best by percentage in the majors, and 28-22 overall.

Mike Trout and Albert Pujols homered, while Maldonado drove in three runs for the red-hot Angels offense.
