A U.S. military parachute fell Tuesday onto the grounds of a school in Tokyo during training, the Defense Ministry said.

The ministry said it was briefed by the U.S. Air Force that the incident occurred during parachute drop training. No one was hurt in the incident, city officials said.

Officials of the city of Hamura in the western part of the Japanese capital said a local junior high school reported that what appeared to be a parachute had landed on tennis courts.

Yokota Air Base is located nearby.

There have been a string of incidents involving the U.S. military in recent times, including a window falling from a CH-53E transport helicopter onto the playground of an elementary school adjacent to U.S. Marine Corps Air Station Futenma in December. No one was hurt in that incident.
