Aleksandr Krushelnitckii, the curler who failed a drug test while representing the Olympic Athlete from Russia team at the Pyeongchang Olympics, has had his bronze medal result "disqualified," the Court of Arbitration for Sport said Thursday.

Krushelnitckii was found guilty of an anti-doping rule violation after he was discovered with meldonium in his body, a substance that increases blood flow. He and mixed doubles curling partner Anastasia Bryzgalova beat a Norwegian pair to win bronze at the games in South Korea.

"The athlete has admitted the anti-doping rule violation; he is disqualified from the mixed doubles curling event at the Olympic Winter Games Pyeongchang 2018 and the results obtained by the team OAR at the same event are disqualified," the CAS statement read.

Krushelnitckii accepted a provisional suspension that runs beyond the games and reserved the right to "seek the elimination or reduction of any period of ineligibility based on 'no fault or negligence' following the conclusion of the games," CAS said in the statement.

Later on Thursday, the World Curling Federation confirmed Krushelnitckii and Bryzgalova's medal has been stripped after CAS' decision.

"According to the WCF rules, this disqualification impacts on the results and ranking of the entire team. Results have been amended accordingly," the statement read, indicating Norway's Kristin Skaslien and Magnus Nedregotten had been promoted to bronze.
