Japan's Sara Takanashi was "disappointed" at failing to set the record for career ski jumping World Cup wins Saturday after finishing third in Sapporo.

Takanashi, who has claimed a berth at February's Pyeongchang Olympics, recorded her third individual World Cup podium finish of the season after posting two jumps of 93.0 meters for a total of 238.2 points at Miyanomori Schanze.

Norway's Maren Lundby won with jumps of 95.5 and 93.5 meters en route to 252.9 points, while Germany's Katharina Althaus was second and Japan's Yuki Ito fourth.

Takanashi has been winless since she captured the 53rd title of her career last February in Pyeongchang to tie Austrian Gregor Schlierenzauer's all-time record.

The 21-year-old local favorite was expected to regain her form and confidence after she topped Friday's qualifying round. However, she ended up settling for her third straight World Cup bronze medal.

"To be honest, I'm really disappointed," said the four-time World Cup overall champion. "I'm not satisfied with the quality of my jumps."

Takanashi placed fourth after her first jump to sit five points behind Lundby. The Hokkaido-native was unable to make up for it on her next jump that carried her just three meters beyond the K point (90 meters).

"I'd been bothered by how I was opening up my skis since the official practice yesterday," Takanashi said. "I was paying attention to it when I was jumping, but I ended up making a similar mistake."

"I've been practicing to win gold at the Pyeongchang Olympics, so I want to improve to meet that goal."

Lundby, who won the previous World Cup event a month ago in Hinterzarten, Germany, has won three events this season and is looking forward to the second competition of the meet on Sunday.

"Just continue my good jumps and we'll see," said the 23-year-old Lundby. "There's some strong competitors...but I'll try my best."
