Japan's Ikuma Horishima claimed his first World Cup victory, winning Saturday's men's moguls in Quebec and ending Canadian Mikael Kingsbury's record World Cup event win streak at 13.

Horishima scored 93.88 points to take first place ahead of Kingsbury's 93.27, earning the highest score of any athlete in any moguls event on the World Cup circuit this season. Kazakhstan's Dmitriy Reikherd took third. Japan's Sho Endo was seventh.

"A part of me was aiming for the gold. I feel very relieved," Horishima said. "It was a course that suited me, so I was able to make the best of it."

In second place after his initial run, Horishima told himself ahead of his second and final run that it was his moment to shine.

"If I blew it at that time, it would mean staying in exactly the same situation as I had been up to that point," said Horishima, who executed at speed to achieve 93.88 points out of a possible 100.

The 20-year-old has also won two world ski championships, after taking back-to-back titles in moguls and dual moguls last March in Sierra Nevada, Spain. However, he started this season poorly, and has only recently been achieving solid results.

The next mogul events of the season will take place after February's Pyeongchang Games on March 3 and 4 in Japan at Tazawako resort in Akita Prefecture.
