World silver medalist Shoma Uno won the Skate Canada International on Saturday, securing his first victory of the season in the ISU Grand Prix Figure Skating series.

Uno, who led after the short program, earned 197.48 points for his free performance for a total of 301.10 in the 12-man field at Brandt Center. American Jason Brown was runner-up with 261.14 and Russia's Alexander Samarin (250.06) was third.

Uno, who rewrote his personal best with a score of 319.84 in September when he won the Lombardia Trophy, said he sees himself improving by constantly scoring a total of 300.

"I'm pretty satisfied," said Uno. "The fact that I've been able to constantly score (a total of) 300 shows I've been growing since last year."

Japan's Takahito Mura was 12th with 186.66.

In the women's competition, local favorite Kaetlyn Osmond claimed the title with 212.91 points, followed by Russian Maria Sotskova (192.52) and American Ashley Wagner (183.94).

Japan's Marin Honda, who was making her Grand Prix debut, finished fifth with a total of 178.24, after starting the day at 10th place.

"I think the score itself isn't so good, but I'm happy with my routine," said the 16-year-old Honda, who also made her senior circuit debut this season. "I was able to perform in a way that I can make the most of during my career, instead of running away from the competition."
